Today it is the 46th World Earth Day. We love the sea, the beach, the waves. We enjoy a surf session in clean fresh water, without encountering any plastic bottles when we paddle out. For lunch we love Taghazout’s fresh fish that the fisherman caught for us early in the morning. But we got to take better care of the nature that produces the fish and the waves and the flowers and the trees. Read our 5 ways to make sure you have an enjoyable responsible holiday in Taghazout.

1. BRING YOUR OWN BAG
Do we really need a separate bag for the bread and one for the vegetables? No, so make sure you bring your own shopping bag when you go shopping in Taghazout. Don’t accept the plastic bags given to you in the shop. By creating awareness among shop owners they will hopefully spread the word to locals.

2. BUY 5 LITER WATER BOTTLES
Unfortunately we can’t drink water from the tap in Morocco. So we are forced to buy plastic bottles for our drinking water. We can reduce the plastic garbage by buying  5 liter water bottles instead of the 1,5 liter ones. Fill up your own brought water bottle. Very handy because then you recognise your own, make sure nobody drinks from yours and you will know if you drank enough water for that day.

3. REDUCE YOUR WATER USE
We know hot showers are really really nice after a long surf session. But please consider the environment while you take your shower. Water is rare here in Morocco. It rains about 2 weeks per year. Appreciate we have water here. Don’t shower too long, switch off the tap while soaping up your skin and hair. When washing your hands and brushing your teeth open the tap a little bit, you don’t need much force of water.

4. BUY AND EAT NATURAL PRODUCTS
Trust us, the fruits and nuts here are much better than the plastic wrapped chips and ice creams. Enjoy fresh products, not only because they are better for the environment but also because they are healthier for your mind and beach body. Keep in mind that unfortunately every plastic bottle and package you buy here is likely going up to end up in the ocean.

5. SWITCH OFF LIGHTS AND UNPLUG YOUR ADAPTERS
When you are not in your room, please switch of the lights. Of course this also applies for the toilet and showers. And when you are the last one on the terrace and almost ready for bed, switch off the light a bit earlier and look up to the sky. You’d be amazed how many stars you can spot in the dark.

Also make sure to unplug your phone chargers, not only to avoid extra use of electricity, The electricity in Morocco can switch on and off quit sometimes, you don't want your chargers to end up broken because of this.

6. DON'T LITTER ON THE BEACH
Bring your trash back home if you don’t find a bin. On the beach we always use the cooling box as a bin after using it. When you leave the beach always look back and check if you did not leave anything behind. And it will flatter you if you also pick up some trash on the way home.

We love Taghazout and would really appreciate your help in the problem against environmental issues and hopefully you will continue your awareness also back home. Happy Earth day!
